Hi, I am Lannie from west Texas. I am a great grandmother finally taking the time to do what I always wanted to do....make a quilt. I am interested in hand quilting and would like to know more about what is the best/easiest quilting frame to use.

Hi and welcome from another Texan. Glad you joined us. The only time I hand quilted, I used a lap hoop, maybe 14 or 15" in diameter. I have a pvc frame, but I've only used it for tying quilts. We have lots of hand quilters in this group, so I'm sure someone will give you good advice.

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D
If you use the search at the top of the page, and type in hand quilting frames, you will find a lot of info :D:D:D |
Welcome from a hand quilter from East Texas. I use a hoop that has a stand that I rest in my lap. That frees up both hands so I can use one on top with the needle and the other on the underside.

Hello, welcome and Happy Quilting from Germany!
I use a 18" hoop on a stand (Jasmine) and although this hoop is quite expensive I love it. I do all my quilts in it, big and small ones. |

I'm overwhelmed at the great welcome from so many. And thanks so much for all the advice regarding a quilting frame. I'll be spending more time with the search on this forum and more "window-shopping" before I buy another one. Thanks again!

Hello from another Texan. I use a lap hoop one that has a flat bottom to put on my lap. I love it - it is about 14" hoop and I even quilt big quilts on it. I tried ones with the stand and with a frame, but with the hoop I can move it around and quilt in any direction. Some members here don't even use a hoop or frame and do what is called lap quilting (I think that is what its called). Glad you joined the board - this is a great place and everyone is so friendly and helpfull.

Welcome from East Texas. I can't do hand quilting because of past carpal tunnel issues so I can't help you but I bet somebody else can.

Welcome from VIRGINIA. I started out handquilting but want to learn to machine quilt on my home machine, as well. You may want to try the round hoop, I even like the SMALL hoop because you can handle it well. My problem got to be that it is easier for me to quilt WITHOUT a hoop, just lapquilt, I guess, they call it. That way, I use the fabric in one hand to help me with the quilting stitch in the other. You may have to try a couple of kinds to see which works best. Good luck -- hope to see some of your handquilting on here. I'm usually in the minority because all but one other lady in my class does the machine quilting - so I'm all alone!

Welcome from San Antonio Tx. I am not a hand quilter but should have absorbed it from all my Mom did!! Wish that would have happened. Not only do I know where Merkel is I have even been there lots of times. We were born and raised near Abilene. Hope you find exactly what you are looking for. There are so many knowledgeable and helpful quilters on this board. I have learned a ton of stuff here.
