It is so sad that a lot of people have not returned since Ike. But I can certainly see why. When we first came to Galv. for more than a vacation, we were volunteering with a group that repaired residents' houses for free. This was in 2010, 2 yrs. after Ike and they still were not able to live in their houses or not all of the houses. I hope to meet a lot of the people in the Galv. Quilt Guild. Hope to meet people thru this Board, also.

Where in TX?

There are alot of good people down there, my husband loved being on the peninsula....he has heart trouble and he says he could breathe down there. We had a good business of renting houses to people, but it's all gone now, but we still have our land. Part of it is for sale. I worked with the Jesse Tree to help people get food and so on, it's a good organization. Some of my friends go to the Meth. church out on the west side of town. Large church. There used to be Quilts By the Bay quilt shop there, but I don't think it reopened after the storm. Owner had run from storms alot and I guess she was tired of it, but she may still have an internet business, not sure.
Enjoy the beach while it's still there.... m |
Im 34 miles from Shiner. I live in Sheridan east of Hallettsville, most people know it because of splashway waterpark. I did go to the quilt shop in Shiner called Martha's I think. It was right on the main shoping strip. They have a nice selection and are very helpful there, I saw there was another shop around the corner when I was leaving but did not stop.

Hi and welcome from Michigan. I think it is a good idea to start small and go big. My first quilt was a nightmare. Queensize and each block had so many pieces and it came out all wonky and crooked. But I love it anyway but it makes me laugh.
