Welcome from the great state of Texas! Claudia, if your are near Dallas Texas, let me know...as I teach beginners in quilting and applique. But if not...we can share and start with just sending notes back and forth.

First of all, can you and your machine sew an accurate 1/4"?
This is very important. Let me know if you can? And we will start there.

Glad you have joined us...and I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hello and welcome to the board from Germany :-). The next important thing after the accurate 1/4 " seam is correct pinning. Practise makes perfect. Enjoy the process :).

Hi and welcome from Alaska. Love your name. My hubby's first name is Claude and I wanted to name my first daughter Claudia or Claudette--he at the time did not like his name so he would not hear of it. Now he likes his name although we still use his middle name. It pops up on caller ID as Claude so a friend of mine and her hubby call me Claudia. HA None of our children have any part of Claude in their names.

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D

It is essential to find a way to get a precise 1/4" seam, and precise cutting as well.
Pinning and/or basting your intersections will help too :D:D:D

Some have said they use a glue stick and if you search on here there is a post describing it.

welcome aboard to you......I started my first quilt as a brick pattern.....didn't need to match .......yup, I know that was kinda cheating.....still trying to get my seams to match now....so I will be doing lots of practice along side of you

jolo 11-15-2010 08:32 AM

use your dress making skills. cut correct size, sew even seams, match seams where they meet. how did you set the sleeve at the shoulder? same difference with quilting. Press seams ,etc get the idea? Ask specific questions here. someone will have the correct answer for you. There are no stupid questions.

Welcome - I too was a dressmaker for over 55 years. I don't know shy I never started quilting. I was 70 when I caught the bug, I'm having so much fun. I don't hand quilt as my hands won't let me, but I machine quilt on my trusty old Singer. She is still purring right along.

Hello and welcome from SC. I didn't know anything about quilting but just started with a pattern. I couldn't cut very accurately which made things not line up; but after trial and error, I kept trying and have almost completed my first quilt. It's king size and has taken me about a year so far and I have 2 more blocks to finish. One of the blocks had 41 squares and triangles in a 9 1/2 block as the base for the 20" finished block! Sounds complicated but I read books, looked at magazines, quite and started many times. But I found the Quilting Board which has tons of info and wonderful people to help with any questions one has. With your sewing knowledge you can do it!!
