Newbie
Hello, I am new here. Right off the bat I need to ask a question, but will tell you why I am asking first. A friend asked me to finish a quilt for her sight unseen right before she moved out of state. She gave the "quilt" to a mutual friend to give to me. Well, there is no quilt and there is no pattern. She had about 6 completed blocks and a few partially completed blocks and some components for other blocks, but I do not know the pattern and am very hopeful that someone will recognize it and help me find it. I would like to finish the project and send it to her. Unfortunately my upload fails no matter what format I use - do not understand that, but that is my luck. My best description is the center of the block is 4 squares and they are surrounded by 8 triangles making the block square, then there is an outer 4 triangles again to make it square there is one on each side. Hope that makes sense and if anyone can tell me how to fix my upload issue I am all for it. Thank you.

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf and on an ipad at https://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-hel...d-t321918.html
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button. As shown at https://www.quiltingboard.com/8565676-post4.html I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures. https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...p-location.jpg Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...d-t312607.html Another way to post pictures can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/showpo...postcount=1143 And how to use an ipad to post pictures can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-hel...s-t318147.html and https://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-hel...d-t321918.html Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB Click on red "Reply" button Click on the paper clip icon Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post) Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload" After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post. Some additional notes - The photos generally need to be reduced to less than 2MB in size. I have heard of people sending an email to themselves as it will ask if you want to reduce the size. I have an android phone and when I tried to reply on Quilting Board while in mobile view None of the options for adding pictures was available. However, there is an option down at the bottom left of the page that is for Full Site when I tapped on "Full Site" It then looked like the way it looks on my lap top. So it would have the Red Reply and the Go Advanced options. Do Not Preview post. |
perhaps being new delays the photo postings? usually does.
but a pic would help when you can get it done. |
Welcome to the boards! That was a pretty good description but as they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words.
I hope you can figure out how to post pictures. I'd like to think of myself as fairly techy but it took me a year of off and on trying. In my case I am using an old school digital camera and the file sizes were too large. I use this site (no connection) to reduce them, it is free and pretty easy to use: https://www.reduceimages.com/ |
Found...sort of.....
I tried reduce images.com and it reduced the picture to 134kb - the original picture was less than 400 kb, but the upload failed again. I definitely appreciate the suggestions and will keep trying. I reached out to a fabric shop where I buy fabric and she emailed a link to a Pinterest photo: https://cl.pinterest.com/pin/52987733111992170/ and that is definitely the block. I contacted the lady that hosted the quilt along in 2022 and she has a book out with the block in it - it is called "Right and Left". I think I can figure out the block, but I just don't know what she was trying to do with the blocks she had made up. Plus the fabric she has cut out doesn't go together to make the same block. I think I will just make up a design with what she has and send it to her and hope she likes it. Thank you for all the help! Much appreciated!

I wonder if the other pieces are cut to make the quilt "Sampler Row Quilt Sew Along" as shown on https://sentimentalquilter.blogspot....sew-along.html. It looks like there six per row of the blocks that you have that are made.

I think you are right Janey - I ordered the book and after I get the book I can join the Facebook group and get the details on that Sampler. Thank you so much for your information!

"Our Workbench" tips
Thank you for all the information on uploading pictures. I tried everything you listed except I do not see a big red Reply button. I am working from a desktop pc. I think we have solved the mystery of the block and hopefully some day I will figure out how to upload pictures from my pc - could be my software.

red reply button found
I found the big red reply button, but the upload still failed. The picture is 137 kb and is a .jpg file. Don't see an issue with the file so it must be my computer somehow blocking the process - wouldn't be the first time my protection software caused issues. Thanks again everyone; lots of helpful information given!

Which browser are you using? I'm using duckduckgo and sometimes I have a hard time even getting to where I can reply, let alone post pictures. I had been using Firefox with adblock. I know some have had trouble with the reply button and have used "Go Advanced." And then "Manage Attachments" and when I just tried that, it only gave me a ghosted out box. Crazy computers.
