My first rag quilt was a king-sized denim and flannel. Because of the weight of both fabrics, I didn't put the batting in...so no need for the X stitching....one step eliminated. Because I knew it would get unmanageable and heavy, I divided the quilt into quarters for the piecing. I even finished off the edging on all 4 quarters before sewing them together. That way....to finish, I needed to sew 2 of the quarters together and then half to half and I was done. It's a big undertaking but you can do it fairly simply....just divide and conquer. I love that quilt!
