Hi folks,
I am new to quilting and this forum, but oh, am I ever hooked. I am a fabric/pattern/picture junkie, spending way to much time looking at and dreaming of these items. I was never taught to sew, but became interested in the the beauty and skill in quilts. It seems they all have a very detailed tale to tell in a special, beautiful language of their own. Starving for the knowledge of this incredible craft, I have jumped in with both feet, teaching myself to sew (well, my version of sewing - lol) I consider myself a novice at best, but have managed to complete 2 tops. I haven't dared trying to quilt them for fear I will ruin them. The quilting will come in it's own time I suppose. I have begun at dabble in some paper pieced blocks and find it very enjoyable as well as regular piecing. In my "real life" out side of quilting, I am a 47 year old female, live in North Central Texas, am married and have two great adult step children and two darling grandsons (who happen to have grandma wrapped around their finger) along with one very spoiled Shi Tzu dog. My other hobby and passion is running and training for the next marathon. For a living, I am a 911 dispatcher - a job I love! Finding this site is like a dream come true. It's so nice to be with others who love and appreciate quilting. I am particularly fond of all the picture postings of your works. Hope to meet, chat and learn from you all! Thanks for having me. :D :D :D :D :D :D Lori Lesnett |
If you are looking for a rehab program.....this is not it!!! We are totally devoted to enabling:) I, for one, am not looking for a cure:)

You are sooo totally screwed if you want help giving it up. Just go with the sew ( i mean flow). This place is extremely addicting and sew very inspiring. Welcome from the great place of Snowball, Arkansas - transplanted from Houston

Hi and welcome from Ontario, Canada.
|
I used a simple method at first.
1. Want to quilt. 2. Buy fabric. 3. Assemble Quilting items. 4. Choose pattern. 5. Purchase extra fabric, ( for pattern). 6. Cut quilt pieces. 7. Sew pieces. 8. Choose border option. 9. Purchase fabric for border. 10. Find another patttern. 11.Finish Quilt. 12. Buy more fabric. I have to admit .. it has expanded since, to include shop hops, garage sales, fabric bin specials and quilt group swaps. But thats as you advance. Hehe |
Welcome from southeast PA!

Lori, welcome to the board!!
We don't allow any 12 step programs here lol :D:D:D |
How about:
1. See something you just have to make (forget the 86 UFOs you already have!) 2. Even though you already have lots of blues and greens and reds in your stash, you absolutely must get that awesome one the shelf (after all, it is on sale!) 3. While you are at it, you pick up some other really useful pieces (never can tell when you'll ever see it again, right?) 4. Stop at another shop on the way home (not to buy, just to look) 5. Three and a half yards later, make your way home (do not stop at the next shop!) 6. After leaving the third shop (your car just magically turned to their parking lot) you head for home 7. Sit down, put your feet up with a nice glass of ice tea and a snack while you read the pattern and fondle your new fabrics 8. Be sure to mention to your significant other how much money you saved! (no need to mention what you spent) 9. Head to your sewing area to cut, sew, press, unsew, sew again and forget about the time (dinner is over rated, right?) 10. Admire your work, not quilted yet, but someday you'll finish it. Remember: Tomorrow is another day, another project 11. Take a picture and post it on QuiltingBoard.com, then spend the rest of the evening online 12. Begin again at step one Life is good and just keeps getting better! |
Welcome from Florida! Good to have you here!

Hello from Western Maryland !!

No 12 step program for Quilters, and oh am I thankful for that, not something I would even want to know about either.
Welcome, and you sound as busy as the rest of us. Hope it is warmer where you are. we were -2 today, but that's warmer than it's been. |
Hi and welcome from Southern California!

Hi Lori, welcome and Happy Holidays from Minnesota!
|
Hello and welcome from Perth, Western Australia. As you can see this is a worldwide phenomenon...totally incurable...possibly genetic...definitely "catching" to susceptible types..so really a twelve step programme would be completely useless.
|
Welcome from Colorado - Have fun here
|
I sew love the 12 stop program, Would you mind if I took it and made a poster to hang in the studio I work in? That is Crafers Quarters in Amesbury MA, a real studio open to anyone. The owner had an awesome idea in creating an open studio for all arts.

Hi and welcome from the sunny state of Florida!!

From your sign in, I have to guess that besides our love of quilting and being Texans, we also share the same birth year. I was born in June of 1963. Isn't it a small world!? |

"Is there a 12 step program for quilters?"
Yes, of course, there is - it's called a BOM or Block of the Month. Usually 12 blocks, but sometimes less. |
The quilt police do not allow any intervention on this board, only enablers.
|
Welcome from another Texan...south central region. You'll absolutely love this quilting board as well as quilting. So much to learn and so much encouragement in the process. Glad you're here!
