Hello! Newbie from Oklahoma. I was looking for information on by new-to-me sewing machine I ordered and among the random searches I did, I googled "Quilting Message Board."

I am unspeakably delighted at the result.

While browsing the boards, I saw so many lovely quilts. Such dedication! This is where I ought to be!

So I signed up and here I am.

What can I say about me? I've been quilting for about 3 years now. I did a little sewing here and there before, but I think I always knew I was destined to become a quilter from the first time I sat down in front of a Bernina in Home Economics. I've made 4 baby quilts, 3 queen size quilts and 15 or so quilted table runners (I decided to make them for EVERYONE a few years ago for Christmas--that wasn't crazy at all!)

And I hate fleece. Hate it. It's taking up more and more space at the fabric store. My lovely quilting fabrics take up less and less as a result. If people want to do simple little cut and knot blankets, that's...their business. But it is a quick craft. Quilting is an art and it should not be minimized to make way for a quick craft. Can you tell I'm a little unhappy about the lack of variety of suitable quilting fabric? I knew you'd understand!

Anyhoo, I have 1 husband, 2 kitties, and I'm currently working on a Jane Austen-style quilt. With my own spin on it, of course. Looking forward to spending way too much time on here!

Rebecca

Hi Neighbor. I live in Blanchard, (1 husband and 1 dog). Don't care for fleece -it's not really fabric- either.

coloradosky 08-11-2011 11:48 PM

Welcome from New York state and I love fleece for applique. It is so easy to use for animals. My avatar bears are done in fleece.

jemma 08-12-2011 12:14 AM

fleece is necessary to make quick clothes to quilt in--but just how many colours do we need --more quilt fabric gets my vote
welcome from aussie

Welcome and fleece makes wonderful backs for quilts, just have to pay attention to the stretch.

Welcome to the board. Fleece is a pain to see in every corner of the store. Love my LQSs. You need to come down to Texas during Sept. for Quilt Across Texas. So many shops-so little time.

I need to know what does a Jane Austen quilt look like?

Welcome from Pennsylvania - you are going to L-O-V-E it here!!! Please, what is a Jane Austin quilt - a picture would really be nice. I, too, have one husband and have had him for close to 54 years. Not to mention doggies and fancy guppies (neat combo - huh?)

Just looked at the link supplied by candledish (ty) ........ that's lovely!
