I AM CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH MAKING POLYESTER QUILTS FOR THE HOMELESS.I HAVE SCADS OF 54 TO 60 INCH HEAVYWEIGHT KNITS.LEFT OVER FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME.I BELIEVE I HAVE ENOUGH FOR 30+ TWIN TO FULL SIZE QUILTS.SO FAR I HAVE USED BLANKETS FOR THE FILLER .I ALSO HAVE LINED SOME WITH SHEETS AND USED LIGHT WEIGHT COTTON BLANKETS FOR FILLER.I AM NOT PIECING THEM BUT I AM MACHINE TACKING THEM FOR DURABILITY.ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR FILLER WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I RETIRED 2O YEARS AGO AND AM JUST NOW GETTING AROUND TO CLEANING OUT THE ARCHIVES.

Maybe you could find some flannel sheets and other blankets at second hand stores? Bless you for thinking of the homeless people who are cold. I know some quilt groups have gotten batting (what you are calling the filling) donated from some of the big batting manufactures for making projects like you are making. Hobbs is one of them, I would also try WalMart if you have one close to you...

Hello and welcome from Perth, Western Australia. Fleece can make a good batting, if you've only got bits and pieces you can zigzag them together.

Well done for doing such a wonderful thing...every time we get a cold snap, I always think of how awful it would be to be on the street.

    Bless you heart!!
Mattress pad covers, flannel sheets, old beadspreads... I am sure there are many items at local thriftstores that will work for this :D
