“Sewing Wars”...the book.
Anyone read this book? I saw a post about it on Facebook so it sounded interesting. I downloaded the digital version from Amazon. A fairly quick read. Jumbled, amateurish ramblings. IMHO. Just reads like someone with minimal business sense who should have had some professional input on how to proceed in making business deccisions. I am not sure what I actually believe to be factual tho. This thread is in no way meant to take any sides. Was just curious about the book content. I am taking a neutral stance.
Full Disclosure...I made the “bag” in question a few years ago..my comments about the project and pattern are on my QB thread.

Sandy, who is this particular designer and what bag patternis in question? I went to Amazon and read the description and all seems very vague. I had not heard about this particular incident. I do know that Bonnie Hunter had a similar thing happen years back with a quilter that she co-authored a book with.

I read the preview and some reviews, which then led me to some blog posts and things. It looks like it could be an interesting read.
I would like to make that bag, but since the video tutorials aren't available anymore, I don't see myself sifting through the 82 pages of instructions to make it. I really like yours!

I think that says it all. She “borrowed” the pattern idea from another copyrighted pattern. In the pattern instructions, She did give a passing credit to the original pattern then went on to bash “professional” pattern designers. A professional does not take 82 pages to write a pattern. I just laughed to myself that she would NEVER be “professional” with that attitude. Karma caught up to her. Dont mess with copyrights. You will lose.

I bought the pattern and made the bag back when it first came out and at that time there was a series of very good free videos available to help. No way could I have made the bag without the videos, my sewing skills aren’t good enough to understand the pattern as written.
