I bought the circle maker from Nancy Zieman's catalog. It cost me about $20.00. I am hoping to make 2 orange peel quilts for my granddaughter's for Christmas, I have sewn about 40 of the circles and only had minor problems with 2-3 of them. The circles didn't end up meeting as they should have. Operator error I'm sure. I'm very happy with this device and am glad I bought it. The only problem I have had is that I realized that the fabric that comes forward and forms the orange slices is cream colored and I can see the zigzag trimmed seam. I'll know better the next time.

I saw this on "Sewing With Nancy" also. She did show alternative, like using a tack through some tape (the tack is point up) and sewing around it.

I saw the tutorial on this board with the thumb tack. That worked great. Then I saw the attachment on Nancy's Notions. Bought it. my opinion, use the thumb tack. You can make bigger circles with the thumb tack than you can with the attachment.

I bought it, but I couldn't get it to work on my Janome Horizon.

I was given one for Christmas. I have used it. The tack is easier and will do bigger circles and almost easier to control. This is more fun though.
