MamaDorian: Could likely use felt, but wool has nice qualities for keeping pins sharp. For cheap wool, I scour resale shops for old wool garments, deconstruct them, felt them in the washer and use them for projects.

yes, you can use felt, other fabrics,

have fun just be creative
