This handy accessory for the sewing machine is a definite must to store all your notions for quick and easy access. The built-in pincushion is an added convenience at your fingertips. It's a great gift idea for yourself or one of your sewing friends.

Janome Supplies Required:
• Any Janome Sewing Machine (Maddie used the Memory Craft 4800)

• 1/4 in. Seam foot O
• Overcast foot M
• Zig-zag foot A

Fabric and Notions Required:
• 1 yd. lavender cotton
• Cotton fabric scraps
• 18" x 21" batting
• Rotary cutter
• Cutting mat
• Quilting ruler
• Stuffing (approx. 1 cup)
• All purpose thread

Download Pocket Pal pattern and diagram as a PDF and print out.

Note: Printed-out pattern should be actual size. Individual printers may vary.

Fabric Preparation:
(Use fabric scraps from other MC4800QC projects)
1. Cut three 3 1/2" squares from dark print fabric. (#1)
2. Cut three 1" x 3 1/2" strips from purple fabric. (#2)
3. Cut three 1" x 4 1/2" strips from lavender fabric. (#3)
4. Cut three 1" x 5" strips from plum fabric. (#4)
5. Cut three 1" x 5 1/2" strips from blue print fabric. (#5)
6. Cut three 1 1/8" x 5 1/2" strips from purple fabric. (#6)
7. Cut three 1 1/8" x 6" strips from lavender fabric. (#7)
8. Cut three 1 1/8" x 6" strips from orchid fabric. (#8)
9. Cut three 1 1/8" x 6 1/2" strips from blue print fabric. (#9)
10. Cut three 1 1/4" x 6 1/2" strips from purple fabric. (#10)
11. Cut three 1 1/4" x 7" strips from lavender fabric. (#11)
12. Cut four 1 1/4" x 61/4" strips from plum fabric for joining pieces.
13. Cut one 6" x 21" piece from lavender fabric for pocket lining.
14. Cut two 18" x 21" pieces from lavender fabric for top and bottom base.
15. Cut two 5" x 7" pieces from lavender fabric for pin cushion.
Instructions:
1. Attach 1/4 in. Seam foot O. Select a Straight stitch. Adjust the stitch length to 2.0mm. Use 1/4" seam allowance.
2. Sew strip #2 to one side of the square #1, right sides together. (See assembly diagram provided above)
3. Trim excess as needed.
4. Sew strip #3 to the square #1 and strip #2, right sides together.
5. Following the numbers on the diagram, continue attaching strips #4 thru #11 to form "Log Cabin" blocks.
6. Sew 1 1/4" x 6 1/4" strips of plum fabric to "Log Cabin" blocks, alternating. This should make one 21" strip.
7. Sew the 6" x 21" lining piece to the pocket strip, only at the top.
8. Turn right side out and press.
9. Baste pocket strip to 18" x 21" lavender piece for front base.
10. Attach the Overcast foot M. Sew along either side of the two center joining strips to form pocket divisions.
11. Place the two 5" x 7" pieces of lavender fabric, right sides together.
12. Using the pattern piece provided, trace the pincushion on the wrong side of the fabric.
13. Attach the Zig-zag foot A. Sew on the traced lines, except for the short straight side to insert stuffing.
14. Trim as needed. Press. Turn right side out and stuff.
15. Baste across the opening to hold in stuffing.
16. Baste pincushion to front base 12" from the front edge. Be sure to line up the raw edges.
17. Layer 18" x 21" batting, back base (right side up) and front base (wrong side up). Secure with pins.
Hint: Trim corners of batting for easier turning.
18. Attach the 1/4 in. Seam foot O.
19. Sew all four sides of the Pocket Pal. Leave a 4" opening at the top for turning.
20. Snip corners. Turn right side out. Press.
21. Topstitch all four sides, catching the 4" opening.

I didn't think it would matter what machine you have.
The pattern was very tricky to find, so I just posted it for anyone who would like to make one.
I have a Singer, and I'm gonna try to make a couple of these. :) :)

Enjoy,
Sondra

It doesn't matter! I just posted that because the directions state to use Janome feet and such. It was more or less sassy talk :D
