Default Learned a new word today

I was Googling everything I could to find out what width to make the borders on a quilt. Lots of advice like, "whatever looks good". Then I found a site about Fibonacci. Its so good to have a "rule of thumb" as a reference when I'm putting on borders.

I took a wonderful class from Barb Vlack several years ago where she taught the Golden Rectangle (Fibonacci), among other things.

Do you remember the Disney movie Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land? They used to show it to us in elementary math classes. It explains why those proportions and dimensions are so pleasing to our eyes - they occur naturally EVERYWHERE.

Yes, we showed it when I taught school too. Loved reading about it.

I do not remember this at all. If we were taught, I certainly don't recall the name. Never heard of Fibonacci. learn something everyday.

Fibonacci is also a stock market turn for the future of a stock. I agree, borders should be proportional to the size of the quilt.

I have a couple of Fibonacci patterns sitting in my UFO pile, complete with chosen fabric.

Well, that may be a scientific way of determine a border or whatever, and maybe subconsciously we see things on this sequence....don't ask me! I determine my borders by eyeballacci! Looks good, sew it on! I don't get that intense, I do this for relaxation and life stress relief...not add to it...but some need this intensity....

It would be interesting to discover how often "eyeballing" border widths results in proportions similar to numerical "rules".
