The one thing I would do differently is to stitch in the ditch on the right side where the seam is between the two fabrics. That way it is more secure than hand stitching, and the flange is "loose" like flanges usually are. You can also do it so that the contrasting colour is narrower, and then it looks like piping.

I've used this method on my last three quilts and it has worked great all three times. Quick to do, looks so neat and perfect and is really easy.

I used this method when I did not have enought material for the binding....this way uses only HALF the amount of quilt material....PLUS set the design off to perfection...IMHO
