Default Machine Binding Tutorial (Ditch method)

Even though I enjoy hand binding and think it looks better than machine, sometimes I just want to get a donation quilt done quickly. Thus far I've been less than impressed with results of any of my machine binding efforts.

However, I was watching some binding videos tonight, and happened to see this one. Her method makes so much sense. Her teaching style suits my learning style.

This is the tutorial on machine binding. Little did I know that stitching in the ditch was the secret! Her mitered corners are excellent, too.

I like Donna’s videos...she does a good job explaining things. That’s how I sew bindings when I choose machine versus by hand. I use wonder clips and a SID foot and they come out great.

I need to watch this one. I hand sew the back binding. No other way ever worked for me. Thank you!

    Love her videos!

The extra detail in the corners helps achieve that nice 45 degree corner. It is how I sew the corners.

I always make a 2” binding but I am going to try this method using 2 1/2”. Seems like you have a little more binding to fudge a perfect corner if you need to. Never thought of SID from front. Great method.
