Darn...I had this all typed out and tried to minimize it....awww...here it is again!:))
Look at your visuals already posted. You will see that she has light to dark values. The 'middle' fabric is the only one of those exact fabrics..then the fabric to each side of her middle strip mirror each other and so on...count how many and copy exactly that. The strips are 3 1/4" wide and you cut the width of a 1/4yrd...only I used fat quarters on a couple of my rows so I had to make 2 sets of these and that is ok:))You sew these strips together..press to one side...then cut across these strips again 3 1/4". You will need 12 to 13 of these rows...doesn't matter u can have either number-I went w/12. Set them in order then take the second from top, scoot it over 1 block to the left or the right (you decide) and sew...do this each time as you sew each row to make a staircase affect. There you go! And, we wait:))I think this Rocky Mountain Quiltworks has done a great job in her instructions and they are more professionally written then by what I just tried to explain:))I will send her a picture and a thanks when we all get done!! I'll be anxiously awaiting to see what she comes up w/next...this is a fun and not overwhelming at all project!! Hope this gets the ball rolling for you!! Skeat

I really am much better now Izzy!!! I have gotten over the feelings of abondonment!! Yes it is a table runner. It is so easy, you should give it a go. It is quick too!!

Tigerbaby1981 07-24-2008 01:59 PM

They look really good so far.. Now I want to find some fabric (another reason to place an order online :D ) Do you think a beginner could do this?

LOL But True :!:

Skeat 07-24-2008 02:20 PM

Yes Jennifer this would be a perfect beginner one...just remember to make sure when you put the right sides together to finish the block sewing part (the last step) that your direction of ironing(of the seams) is going a different direction then the same of each other. This is so you can pin the rows or seams together and they end up locking into each other before you sew...making for straight seams. Make sense??Maybe I might not be saying it right. If not, someone say it right:))LOL Skeat

When I first started quilting I read to iron my seams open which I have done since. On the last mystery quilt we did here I decided to try and iron them to the sides. Never again!! Your quilt is much flatter and smoother when you iron the seams open. There was a whole article on this in the newsletter that comes out from Konsitine from here. Maybe I can find it. The fabric and thread is very different then years ago so it is okay if not better to iron your seams open. Just thought I would put my ten cents in. (Inflation) :D

Tigerbaby1981 07-24-2008 04:36 PM

Thanks I would love to try this. We dont have ANY table runners as of yet! So this could be fun. Maybe make one I can use at thanksgiving.
I press seams open when I "sew" and to one side (usually darker color) when I "quilt" but this is just what I have learnt from taking classes... Any tips would be great!!

mgshaw 07-24-2008 04:43 PM

More often than not I press to one side. But there have been times when pressing them open was a must. I think my main rule is press for construction,

Skeat 07-25-2008 07:45 AM

Melissa and everyone, I send her a 'thanks' and that we are having fun w/this and she was thrilled:))She wants us to send her pictures when we get done so she can post them on her site too. So, there ya go:))Also, the next step should be up by tomorrow morning. How exciting!:))Skeat

DonnaRae 07-25-2008 08:22 AM

Great Skeat, I have been conversing with her also but I figured she thought I was nuts  because I told her we were going to do it on our forum. Maybe more of us should thank her for the mystery. I like her mysteries because they are easy and sometimes that is all I want is something easy! How about you all :?: :-)

And I forgot, you can sign up for her newsletter, it is very brief, lets you know if the new step is up and about specials. Nothing fancy or bothersome! :D

DonnaRae 07-26-2008 12:24 PM

The last step for the mystery has been posted. And yeh, a new one starts next week. I am definitly doing it. It is for a tote and I have already posted it here in Links. Maybe we will get more this time. A tote should be too much fun and I never heard of anyone doing a tote before. Hee Hee I am happy! :D

Here 'tis! That was fun!
Hey Donna and Skeat, are you sending in your pictures after you have quilted it or just the picture of the finished top?

DonnaRae 07-26-2008 01:31 PM

I have to fess up and say I have not kept up. I had some physical problems the last two to three weeks and the new meds the doctor gave me is just now working. When I first started havieng the problem I kept thinking it would get better any day. Okay after writing this I am thinking you will be thinking well what the blank blank blank is it  :?: I have extensive nerve damange in my neck with bones that did not fuse together after an accident in 1999. Sometimes the nerves decide to do their own thing. Well this time my arm kept slinging all over on it's own and The only way to stop it was hold it down. Kinda funny in a way. I did laugh sometimes as irrateable and painful as it was. I just started on new meds and the arm has quit flinging, I hear you laughing. When I get caught up with everything else I will finish this and and post a picture. But it appears this med. may work so I am definitly doing the new Mystery which starts next week. Did you read about it yet. I hope everyone is going to do it with me. Should be fun!! :D

DonnaRae 07-26-2008 01:33 PM

I am so bad, before I wrote the above I saw your runner and thought how beautiful then I did not even say so.... It is great! And how proud are you :?: You should be lots :!:

mgshaw 07-26-2008 01:39 PM

Omg Donna! You just take care of yourself!!! Sounds scary! I hope the meds continue to work and you get all better fast!!! We got sewing to do girl!!!!

(OK maybe I did snicker a tiny bit when you said you could hear us laughing)

Butterflyspain 07-26-2008 10:50 PM

Hi Melissa, Your table runner turned out so pretty. I really like it. Got 3 of my fabrics picked out, Not got anything planned today so will finish the Tote that I making and then have another look through my stash as it doesnīt take a lot of fabric. So if I can find the right things will start cutting today.

Thanks for all your help. Hugs Elle

Skeat 07-27-2008 01:31 AM

I am going to try and finish all the way and then send her a picture for I am thinking it won't really take too long and then it is all the way done for the table. Then it won't become one of those ufo's:)) Also Elle...it sews up quick and you will be glad to do this runner. Post pics:)Skeat...who has a family day all day today, so it will go intothe first of this next week for me to completely finish:))But, I'll 'get'er done':))

*I'll post a finished pic here too when done...anyone else get theirs done too?? Also...for the mystery minds...do notice the new post up from Donna about the next mystery...it's a tote!!:)Yea!

Tigerbaby1981 07-27-2008 04:12 AM

Im going to order some fabric I think today for this and I cant wait to start the tote bag! I'll post pics when I get this done in a couple weeks :)

Butterflyspain 07-27-2008 07:19 AM

Hi everyone, Well got my table runner cut and sewn and the cut and sewn some more LOL . Got up to the section where you have to flip it and cut through it, a bit scary. Anyway I will give you a preview tomorrow all being well and I donīt muck it up.

This is my rendering. Have to admit it was fabric I had that just kind of went together but I really donīt like the colours. This was a learning process for me as I donīt like matching seams LOL some of them donīt quite make it :( I can see a fault and will have to sort it out.

BUT I DID IT

It looks a bit wavy but hopefully will be okay with the backing on it.

Skeat 07-28-2008 03:38 AM

Elle, You did great!! I like the colors too! I am so glad you shared w/us for those thinking of stepping out of the box. I had a family day all day yesterday w/much family...so, when I get a pot of coffee down me today to wake up and clean up-I'll finish the rest of mine too. Skeat

Butterflyspain 07-28-2008 03:45 AM

Thanks Skeat, you see I wasnīt sure about those colours and I think what I am going to do is put Christmas fabric on the back so I can have it at Christmas, that way it will get used, either that or it is destined for the caravan
My email is not working today cannot get into my mail at all think Hotmail is playing up so I am late coming back to you that is why.

Elle

mgshaw 07-28-2008 06:29 AM

I love it Elle! Love your colors! A christmas one would be great!!!
After finishing mine and knowing what it looks like, I have ideas now for more, you know, with things I would do differently. She warned in the first step not to use fabrics that would blend into each other and I think some of mine do although when I started I didnt think they did! But I really like these!!!!

Isnīt it funny how we all percieve each others colour combos. I love your colour choices Melissa. Even DH didnīt go a bundle on my colours either so that shot me down in flames, but later I will put on some Crimbo fabrics and see how that comes out. To be continued....

It's beautiful, and I don't see a fault. We are too critical of ourselves. My DH wants to take it right out of the PC for us. You used his favorite colors. It's great :!:

Butterflyspain 07-28-2008 09:14 AM

Well that is just great DonnaRae, I am very happy that he liked it.

Okay...don't cry...I just know it is beautumous:))Or something like that. I do think taking a straight on pic is not a 'good thing' for this is too long and it is hard to see:))But here is my finished product...not perfect, but, finished:))Remember...I used coordinating fabrics instead of contrasting...to think out of the box and see how it looks. For those that are wanting to do this...do it, for it is quick:))My mom will love it for the holidays:))Skeat

Butterflyspain 07-31-2008 05:09 AM

You did good girl, love the little cats faces every now and again.

Great Work Elle

Skeat 07-31-2008 05:23 AM

Thanks Elle:))

Skeat 07-31-2008 02:31 PM

You two are funny!! There is no big box;))LOL Skeat

DonnaRae 08-01-2008 07:31 PM

Hi everyone, I emailed this evening asking about the tote mystery. So when she gets back to me I will let everyone know. But untill then if you are interested there is another mystery starting. It is stars and she says that it is not hard, good for beginners. The blocks will be posted every two weeks so that makes it a lot easier. The first Star block is up. So if you want to try the stars look on this thread and you will see Mystery Stars (something like that). You need to get the addy from that new mystery thread. I am going to do it. :D

Tricia 08-02-2008 01:56 AM

Here is the thread for the Star BOM

DonnaRae 08-02-2008 09:45 AM

I emailed Tina about the tote and this is the reply:

Hi Donna Rae,
I'm glad you are enjoying the mysteries. The tote bag won't be posted until next week unfortunately. We are having a wedding in the family this weekend so my time is definitely not my own lol. I'll send out an email and let y'all know as soon as I have it ready.
Have a great weekend.
Tina

I think it is okay because it gives us all a reprieve. But there is another mystery starting here which is stars. The host writes at her forum that it is not hard and good for beginners too. She is only posting twice a month so she gives lots of time to do the mystery. So you might want to do that one also. I am. I think since it is the 2 weeks I can do it and if not then I will just get behind. I am though very excited about the tote because this is a first. So what does every one think? Oh and the other one is Mystery Star in this same forum and the frist star has been posted.

Butterflyspain 08-02-2008 09:58 AM

Thanks Donna, looking forward to this mystery tote. keeping an eye out for your posting when it starts. Will also have a look at the stars.
