Nice to see so many that also like buttons. I really should take some pictures when I have them out. DH's grandmother had some all sorted out in little paper envelopes. When I saw the calico buttons I thought up putting them on poster board. I used a large eye needle and dental floss to secure them. I gridded out squares and marked with a Sharpie. If they have a shank, I used an awl to punch a hole in the poster board to poke the shank through. I really didn't want the designs to get scratched and I wanted to see them too, so the page protectors seemed like a good idea.

I am no expert by any means, just an interested collector.

I hear you, with this economy. :( My grandmother had some ivory buttons still on the cards with victorian type calligraphy on the card. What kind of pictures do you have? I have some with metal moon and stars. Wonder how old they are.

You can use Marcia's site and just put sashing in between the leaves.

Thanks for the links.

I love buttons also. Buttons have so many uses - educational - when my children had to learn their colors, to sort by shapes, to count by fives, tens, to 'add' to a hundred (all with supervision) I used buttons. So many children crafts involved buttons. I can remember my childhood home having tin cans and old jars with buttons. When my parents died, in their will they had that my neice was to receive the buttons. We treasure buttons.

I have been looking for buttons all summer to fill a round globe type jar - looks like I will be looking again next summer as even fall is quickly ending. So I am not sure if others appreciate buttons any more.

Does anybody know how to tell if your buttons are bakelite? I have LOTS of buttons and know some of them are bakelite but not sure which ones.
