I sure do want to try this. Just watched Nancy Zieman do something similar doing a folded flying geese quilt. Wish I could find the link to share but it was in Quick Column Quilts part 3.

That is very clever. The cutting is the hardest part for me so with precuts and this method it would be a breeze to stitch a top together. Thank you for sharing.

I tried this and I found it to be great fun and the blocks are beautiful. I am going to make a template so I can center faster. I didn't find the ironing difficult at all and the blocks go lightening fast. One question I have, though, is weight. If I were to make a queen size quilt, would the extra fabric in the seams make a heavier quilt? Would I then use a very light batting? I am running my blocks to my local quilt shop to show them off.

Very interesting. My stash has enough sizable pieces in it that there will be no need to buy precuts at all for this kind of piecing. Cool!!!

I recently came upon this. Ingenious. However, I took some fabric out and just laid the charms on top of the ten inch.
You need to use a charm square that you cannot see through or line the charm square. Otherwise, the bottom fabric shows through. I do absolutely plan on doing something with it. I bought a layer cake Lady Mary collection, and I think it would make a fabulous quilt with this technique. I just need to get a heavy enough charm square fabric for the center. I had wanted to use the same charm square fabric for the entire quilt. I'll have to start experimenting with my stash.

I have not seen them, but it is my understanding she has several videos using this technique.

Thanks for the critiques. I can see how important the center is. You would need your iron right next to the sewing machine and no slipping on each fold and stitch. I would like to have seen her sewing as well.
