Free 2014 Superbowl Mystery

This is another One Day Mystery for February. I did their Superbowl mystery last year, but missed the year before that. I actually finished it before the end of the game, and I ended up giving it to my MIL for Mother's Day. Not sure what fabrics I'll choose for this one yet. I'm thinking maybe a dark turquoise for the solid, and then some contrasting lights & mediums for the fabrics 1 & 2. I haven't decided if I'll do the Mystery Dips, but that's a good idea, too.

I am in! Looking for fabric now, thanks!

Belfrybat 01-01-2014 05:50 AM

I've put it on my calendar. I don't watch the Superbowl, but I buried my 16 year old dog and true companion Feb 2, 2013. I still miss him, and this will keep my mind and hands busy on that sad day.

AnnT 01-01-2014 06:00 AM

Got it printed off and planning to check stash for fabric! Thanks for sharing.

coopah 01-01-2014 06:49 AM

I might try this, but "my" team might be playing, so if that happens, I'm in front of the TV that day! It will be huge if we get a run at the Super Bowl. Fingers crossed!

Roma Bauder 01-01-2014 08:54 AM

I got the directions printed. I will be in my room sewing while hubby is watching the game.

slowquilts 01-01-2014 10:12 AM

Scavenging through my stash shortly, sounds like fun.

Oksewnsew 01-01-2014 08:57 PM

cathycabot 01-02-2014 11:12 AM

This may be fun. I might see if I can invite some quilting friends over and do it together. I like the simplicity of the only figuring out 3 colors from my stash. I'm thinking red white and black.

Just read through the mystery dips. What is shoe peg corn?

I googled Shoepeg corn and this is what I found:
Shoepeg corn is a cultivar of white sweetcorn valued for its sweetness. It is characterized by small, narrow kernels tightly and unevenly packed on the cob. The corn has a sweet, mild flavor. The most common variety of shoepeg corn available today is Country Gentleman.[SUP][1][/SUP]

Shoepeg corn is popular in some regions of the United States, particularly in the South. An early promoter of canned shoepeg corn was Malcolm Mitchell of Maryland — his Mitchell's Shoepeg Sweet Corn is a brand still available today,[SUP][2][/SUP] although its original center of production was turned into the Aberdeen Proving Ground soon after the U.S. declared war on the Central Powers in April 1917.

The name "shoepeg corn" derives from a shoemaking term used during the 19th century.[SUP][3][/SUP][SUP][4][/SUP] Shoepeg corn kernels resemble the wooden pegs used to attach soles to the upper part of shoes.
Shoepeg corn is a common ingredient in salads and corn dishes throughout the Southern United States, but is relatively unknown in other areas of the country. It is on rare occasions available fresh in some areas, but it is most often canned. Shoepeg corn is also the best variety of corn for Kokanee salmon bait.
The term "shoepeg corn" dates back to before the American Civil War. The corn was named for its peg-like shape. Shoepeg has smaller kernels and is sweeter than yellow corn. If you cannot find it at your grocery store, substitute either white or yellow corn in your recipes.

This sounds fun! Now to pick fabrics.................. :)

MeLuvQuilts 01-06-2014 05:15 AM

I missed the New Years mystery, but I will make sure to be around for this Superbowl one. Thank you for the link! Not sure about the dips, but the corn one has a lot of ingredients I love.

MeLuvQuilts 01-19-2014 05:29 AM

I didn't find the shoe-peg corn, but what I got will hopefully work! As for the quilt, I decided to make 2 of these (hoping I can keep up somewhat!). Since they are just 3 color quilts, I am doing one in school colors (black and orange .. so can also be for Halloween). I'm hoping that just 2 variations on the orange will work. The other one I am doing is Americana, and I'm using the navy as the background.

KarenR 01-19-2014 05:47 AM

I wonder how hand dyed's would work?

Tweety2911 01-19-2014 06:02 AM

Thanks, I might join in too. Belfrybat so sorry for your loss.

I'm thinking about going with these fabrics. The Texas wildflower one is directional, but hopefully I can make it work.

Thanks -- it's amazing how much I still miss him. Glad you are joining in the fun. I did a New Years Day one and still am not finished. I really don't know how people can sew and quilt so fast!

btiny36 01-20-2014 03:21 PM

Thanks for sharing...I'll have to put this on my list to save, as I will be on holidays

coopah 01-21-2014 05:15 AM

I'm going to be in front of the TV! So excited that the Seahawks are going to the Bowl!! YAY!!! I'll watch this thread so I can get directions, although, really, I need to get at that UFO pile!

Normabeth 01-21-2014 06:08 AM

I'll give this a shot, I do not watch the game, need something to do while game is on

ragqueen03 01-21-2014 06:15 AM

Wish I could do this but I work every Sunday night (first superbowl I am missing in like fourteen years!) but may make the dips to take to work to share.

collector49 01-21-2014 06:22 AM

I've got my fabric cut and I'm ready to roll.

KarenR 01-21-2014 04:39 PM

I just ordered my fabric!!! I'm trusting the person I spoke with on the phone.

I picked mine out today - totally, totally out of my realm! I thought I'd try something different, I have so many other colors I've made up, and there is NO orange, anywhere! LOLO Instead of going 'dark' for the 3rd fabric, I chose white on white. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya just gotta do..

VivianW 01-22-2014 10:04 AM

I've chosen fabric from my stash for my little boys I will be babysitting on Super Bowl Sunday. They love to quilt with mamaw so whatever this turns out to be will remain with them! Loves these mysteries. All cut now and waiting on first clue!

KarenR 01-23-2014 06:08 AM

What time do the clues begin coming out?
