I always put the pin in my mouth as I stitch and pull out the pin, no more. My partner in a recent swap made a pin cushion that I mounted on the front of my machine and that is where the pins go now. After reading this article I won't be putting pins in my mouth anymore.

I had a few in my mouth the other night and knew it was stupid for this exact reason, sad.

Wow, how scary is that! I think all of us put pins in our mouths at one time or another, but after reading that - NO MORE! Thanks for posting that!

I have been a seamstress all my life. I've never used my mouth for a pin cushion, for this very reason. I did however, sew the needle through my finger on the right edge of my nail. I remember turning white...because I couldn't move my finger, then rolling the wheel backwards to lift the needle then leaning on the table and the counter so I wouldn't faint. I made it to the kitchen sink and ran water over my finger. My daughter poured peroxide on it and I was fine...after wards. Took me a few days to get up the courage to get back to the sewing machine though.

LOL. 20 Minutes did a whole show about Snopes. Snopes is two people who decide what is false or true based on internet searches they do. They both said their findings are not researched for real facts and they cannot verify the results themselves. It is mostly their decision if something is false or not. I doubt the cockroach story but my Aunt had a small bug get in her ear and lay eggs. Everyone thought that couldn't happen. If something isn't impossible then it is probable. Who moistens envelops any more? Buy the self seal ones. |
Thank you so much for your story. I do it all the time. Up to 4 at a time. Now, I will never, ever do that again.

A friend stepped on a needle. She thought it would work its way it. It did not and she had to have surgery and was laid up while it healed. This is why I never allowed my dog or children in the area where I sew.
