Below is the website for the Spirit article in Quilter's Home Magazine that highlights the Quilting Program of which I am the supervisor. They found the worst photo of me  , but the guys look great!

Awesome! What a great thing to do and the quilts look good!
P.S. you could be my twin. I couldn't believe it when I saw the photo! |
I like that activity. What do they do with the quilts?
What a FABULOUS program. I know that quilting gives me time to think about life and sort out things, you know? It's good for the soul, and I'm sure the prisoners benefit as much, if not more, than the recipients of their work.
What a wonderful thing this is. They all look very serious about their creations. Good for all of you. A job well done.
Look at those big 'ol tough guys making such beautiful quilts!! :D The colors and designs are gorgeous! You are doing a wonderful thing for them -- especially mentally and emotionally. It's so clear to see that they really do enjoy being creative and producing something positive to give back to the community. God bless you -- and them -- for all your efforts. :D
What a fantastic job you are doing with these guys. They look like they really enjoy making the quilts.
You're doing something very valuable and a lot more than charity quilts is coming out of your efforts. You're opening up a new world those men may never have encountered without you!
what a wonderful way to share your talents!
I am very touched by the photos. They do wonderful work and look like they take it very seriously. Thank you for sharing with us.
What a great program and a nice article about it. You are doing a great service.
What a beautiful write up of what you do! Thank you so much for sharing this with us :D:D:D
You are to be commended for your work with these inmates. They are being productive and helping people in need. Thank you for sharing this article.
What a great resource for them. Quilting is good for everyone. Looks like they are enjoying it too
What a great service you and the guys provide to the community. You are to be commended. Very nice article.

I loved seeing all those tough guys with tatoos working on their quilts. What a great program. Saw another article about quilters in prison where they were only allowed to cut with children's craft scissors. These guys must be well screened to allow them to work with rotary cutters and such. I'd like more information on this. How did the program get started? Any follow up on prisoners who have been released - how they're doing?
Here is the link to my post about the program. This is how the editors of Quilter's Home found out about us!

How awesome! I am very impressed with the program and with the work produced! You must have bren blessed in a special way to be able to do this work and you, in turn, are a blessing for these men. It would be wonderful to see a program like this expanded to many other situations all over the nation.
Thank you so much for sharing! |
I think you look great! You are doing a great service for these men. God bless you.
Blessings to you for this great project. Nice article
thanks for sharing with us
This is awesome!
Thank you for sharing this with us. I am still intrigued by the whole concept.

Beautiful, you, the quilts, the program
Love seeing all those pretty colors. |
I work with a lot of people who have been in prison in Australia, and a colleague did a quilting project for the AIDS memorial quilt in the late 1980s. I went in at the finish and showed photos of it being shown to school groups.
I understand now how much it meant to the women involved in that project. I met one of them years later, and she was still proud of her involvement in that project. We met at the craft shop in the town we used to live in - she was shopping for wool. She had continued on her craft journey, and her life had changed completely. She was working, reunited with her children and family and drug free. What you are doing for your community, in changing how your Quilting Team see the world is amazing - rehabilitation in action. |
Thanks to you for realizing not all the people behind bars are "bad" some have made their mistakes and are paying the price.
GOD BLESS YOU.
Very cool. These types of programs are so important.
Kathy that is so awesome!!!! The guys look like they are really enjoying themselves. I am just in awe of what you have done with these guys. Thank you for making such a difference in their lives.

What a nice program. I was surprised to see an inmate using a rotary cutter.
At the prision in our town, the inmates crochet afgans for charity. They are not allowed to keep any, I think because they could be unraveled and the yarn used as a weapon. Churches gather and donate yarn. Jean in MI |
What a great job you are doing for the fellows mental state. I think they are doing a great job and happy to see a publication on the project. We do not see enough of that. How did all of this get started and do you have help teaching the classes? Your picture shows how much fun you are having. Keep up the great work.
Wonderful work, and I wonder if you aren't changing more lives than you know. Even though they're competitive, this may be the first time they've personally done something to be proud of that was for someone else!!! Your picture is great, like someone who is very dedicated to others, and proud of her "crew."
Thanks to you for doing such a wonderful thing to help turn around some lives.
What a wonderful thing you are doing. It's strange to see the guys piecing and sewing with all those tats. If you can change one, it's worth it.
Lynn |
Bravo to you and your guys.....I have never been so impressed as to see how one person can motivate an entire group, especially men, to create.
That is so wonderful that you do this and the guys are motivated to do it too.
Thanks to all who have looked at the site!!!
Lyn, HOW on earth did you get all your kitties to stay put while you shot that photo? I can't even get my 1 princess to sit still while I try to snap one. She needs to come inspect what I'm doing! |
What an inspiring story. Thank you so much.
I wonder if the guys will continue to quilt after their time is done? I'm guessing they will!!
