A lovely way of displaying and using a couple of treasured quilts
 

I have a new way of displaying a couple of my quilts Our block of flats are having a huge refurbishment done in the next year but in the meantime the double glazing is past it's best especially in the bedroom and my balcony door, so................ Using a couple of these super hangers from EBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...OC%3AGB%3A3160 I have displayed a lovely really old quilt over my existing curtains and boy does it make a huge difference. But what is really nice that this lovely quilt can be seen at it's best and not just folded up.

I have just ordered some more hangers as I am going to "display" one over my balcony door for the winter, win win situation IMO

Lovely quilt! Unless I'm misunderstanding your post, you may want to rethink hanging those quilts, to block sunlight. Sunlight will bleach out the colors, in very little time! You'd do better, to hang a sheet or something else, less valuable.

Oooh no definitely not for keeping out the sun, it is OVER my existing curtains,which are drawn and it to keep out some of the cold draughts I get, it is easterly facing so the wind is bitter when it is that direction.

This is a lovely hand worked quilt, not sure of it's age or where it comes from but a couple of the fabrics are so old that they are disintegrating so I appliqued a Sun Bonnet Sue on , to walk in Grandmothers Flower garden, get it the name of the pattern :) When I have time I am going to do an Overall Sam for the other worn patch, to keep Sue company. The hangers have lovely smooth plastic grips which are only on the machined edge, which I think was done at a later time as ALL of the rest is hand worked. It is lovely to see it hanging to enjoy as prior to this it was just folded up in amongst my other quilts. When Spring comes I will think of making a space on one of my walls as I think it will be happier hanging that creased up, ignored and forgotten.

Yes, the way I understood she is wanting to block the cold air until they redo the apartments. There should be no damage with curtains hanging behind them. She will be a lot warmer and can enjoy the beautiful quilts.

Thank you, I was desperate as the original fabric has completely disintegrated, along with the batting so I appliqued the Sue onto a piece of wadding backed with a light pillow case fabric, carefully cut around it and FMQ it onto the quilt and it worked like a dream so as I have said when I have the time I will do an Overall Sam, the same way to keep SS company :) and save this lovely quilt for a while longer. The quilt is far too delicate now to use as a quilt but hanging up in my bedroom window I can have the pleasure of looking at it.

Nice idea. We have one or two windows we hang a blanket in front of (after curtains are closed) to help keep the draft down in the coldest days of winter and they are not very pretty to look at. I may have to rethink that idea and make a window quilt that is more attractive. Hmmm, and maybe rig it to look like a roman shade that can be drawn up or down with a cord. The wheels are turning in my head now.... Thanks for posting this. :)
