Babies are constantly working to coordinate their fingers and will pick at yarn, ribbon, whatever, simply because it's there. If a piece of the "tie" is detached, it goes into the mouth. Your instincts match mine!

I have machine tacked because it is quick, affective and VERY hard to 'pick' out.

thank you will try this on next quillow. wish i saw this before I was about done with the one I'm finishing up. It isn't my favorite thing to do so if there is a better way thats good with me for sure.

I have used small bows (ready made ) to tack a quilt with, also there is a systemn called cambridge that has a tissue pattern for tying mch quilting with big heart patterns , bows etc.etc. like a stencil only large size. cmaras
