This would be pretty cool for camping. New treadles

I think this is a great deal. I have two treadle cabinets with no machine. I am going to look in to it further. Thanks for posting.

My mother had a Singer fitted with a hand crank that just fastened to the hand wheel with a folding piece that fitted into the wheel so she could use it, or disengage it if she didn't want to use it. It is still on the treadle machine.

I wonder if that person (designer) went to the Tenn TOGA gatherings. That is a beautiful machine, but I notice that they have more than halved (halfed) the price. Maybe they'll soon figure out a way to put a hand-crank on it--heads up Skip/Glenn.

Did anyone else look at the video about 3/4 of the way down on the page! If not check it out - very cute. A bicycle powered sewing machine!

My DH is taking us camping off the grid...I'm taking my hand crank,so I don't go into withdrawal LOL!

I watched that...it was very cute.

It looks like a neat idea! Great for those power outages as well. :)

Yes, but what if you don't have a cabinet to put it in? Where do you get one? Can you get a NEW hand crank machine now?

Suzanne57 08-06-2014 03:09 PM

BUT they want 1,099 for the treadle base!

KalamaQuilts 08-06-2014 03:17 PM

treadle would be a bit heavy to take camping...yikes.

I have a 1928 Singer LaVinceadora (sp?) hand crank, lovely to use on a picnic table.
The parts to change an electric older machine to hand crank are available at places that carry other new parts for vintage machines.
There are many places in the world without electricity, these machines give the women a chance for some independence.
The people powered ones from India kind of irritate me, as they use the same decals as old machines and are sometimes passes off on Ebay etc, as Vintage, unused, :(

In the video It looked like the girl was sewing from the back of the machine. How does she adjust the dials from that position? Never seen that before.

Where do you get the cabinet from, all the adds I saw say it does not come with a cabinet. Looked on line, their was an Amish site, but it was very expensive.

Looks interesting but for camping??? Wouldn't that be like transporting an old treadle? One the other hand...a crNk machine

lwbuchholz 08-08-2014 01:33 PM

And I have a machine to put into a treadle cabinet and can't find one.
