Super shortcut block!

I have never seen this before and I'm not sure if the author of this tutorial came up with it or borrowed it, but, it would make a super fast and cute quilt!

Please post your thoughts if you try it out!

agnes 02-05-2012 08:08 PM

There is a book ... can't remember the name, but it is something Pineapple that shows this technique and has projects. Have done it and it is fun to do!

Mkotch 02-06-2012 04:12 AM

Thanks for this! I hate paper piecing and it's a great way to make pineapple blocks. Will give it a whirl.

sandyms 02-06-2012 04:37 AM

This is called the Exploding Pineapple block and it is fast and fun to do!

Thanks, Sandy!
I think this would be a great way to do fast blocks for charity quilts (Project Linus comes to mind).

fran624 02-06-2012 05:20 AM

quiltaroni 02-06-2012 05:48 AM

quiltlin 02-06-2012 07:03 AM

I am definitely going to try that!

dixie_fried 02-06-2012 07:09 AM

I guess in theory, you could keep adding bigger blocks and do a whole quilt top, couldn't you? Like...crib sized wouldn't be hard at all...
Wheels are turning!!

Cacklinghen 02-06-2012 07:17 AM

Neat idea!!! Thanks

DianneK 02-06-2012 08:10 AM

Thanks...can't wait to impress someone with it!!

Marysewfun 02-06-2012 08:14 AM

And I would think if you didn't want each block to get toooooooo big - you could use sashing between several of them, too. It definitely looks like a fun way! :-)

SunlitenSmiles 02-06-2012 09:10 AM

you can make blocks this way with a fussy cut center and then blenders...saw this at a quilt show...one of the LQS owners had their hubby demo it.

Patched 02-06-2012 09:37 AM

Thanks for the link. Looks really neat. Can't wait to try.

onaemtnest 02-06-2012 09:41 AM

Now isn't that just the most clever easy block! Thank-you for sharing!

Patchworkmarion 02-06-2012 10:18 AM

That is great.Thank you

LynnVT 02-06-2012 10:38 AM

This is a great idea! I meandered around the blog it comes from and found another easy idea for a variable 9 patch. Just make a 9 patch, then cut in quarters and reassemble with centers to outside. So many great ideas out there!

lindy-2 02-06-2012 10:40 AM

yup its realy easy its called exploding pineapple and there is a book on it ive done a lap size quilt and it took about 7 hours to finish.

ewecansew 02-06-2012 11:17 AM

Karen Hellaby of Quilters Haven has a book describing this technique---'Sew Simple Pineapple' published in 2008. She now has a second book--'Pineapple Plus' published in 2010.

ewecansew 02-06-2012 11:39 AM

It is a cute blog and I love the idea of the cinnamon waffles.

dd55 02-06-2012 12:13 PM

wow, i liked that idea. can't wait to try. thanks for sharing the link.

CathieB 02-06-2012 02:03 PM

Just curious whether you have any problem with the edges stretching or buckling. Looks like the edges would be on the bias.

I haven't tried it yet, but I certainly will keep the bias edges in mind. Thanks for pointing it out!

Sunnye 02-06-2012 05:11 PM

Oh wow; neat. Thanks. I need all the help I can get in the "easy" department.

hershery 02-06-2012 06:58 PM

Oh, Doris! I love what you did with the blocks! Especially the last bright one--perfect for PL!
