I've looked at the little collapsible thread catcher but thought it was a little too big for my to-go bag. I found this little cutey and it's perfect. I used my 60 degree ruler to cut out the pattern.

What a cute little "catcher" thanks so much for sharing it!!
Ok Ellen I just went and looked at the tutorial of it...I don't understand what makes the bottom part of it? Can you explain that to me? There wasn't any mention of it in the directions...

SO neat , How meny triangles do you need to cut for each? I am seeing 3 tri or 6 pieces of fabric is this correct? Thanks for info.

efayard 09-04-2011 12:42 PM

Hope I can explain.. you only need one triangle. After you sew, turn and press you match up two points, fold one point down halfway, mark and stitch. You do this for each of the three points.

efayard 09-04-2011 12:44 PM

It makes a little bottom after you match up the three points and sew down halfway. I think once you cut out the triangle and try it you will understand better. Maybe practice on a piece of paper

These are so cute and practical. Thanks for sharing how to do them.

ccthomas 09-05-2011 04:53 AM

Thanks, I may need to make more than one to catch all the thread I seem to accumulate.

star619 09-05-2011 05:16 AM

Maybe I could make one and attach it to a ribbon to place around my neck. That's it! A Loose Thread Necklace for all those good souls who are always picking threads off my clothes!

Thank you for sharing. This is as cute as can be. Each year I have given the ladies that I work with something that I have made without alot of cost involved. This is a contender.

k3n 09-05-2011 08:14 AM

That is cute. They'd also make nice little gifts filled with bath pearls or candies. :-D

AnitaSt 09-05-2011 10:04 AM

I had posted that I made one last night. but just as a side note i turned my inside out so the seams weren't showing. showed my sis (who created a quilting monster according to my husband!) and she loved it. thought it would be great for some of our guild members!

Patti Mahoney 09-05-2011 03:53 PM

Looks like to me you are only using one triangle. Fold on all three sides, one at a time, and sew half way up each side to leave the unsewn parts for the flaps. You are only using one triangle. It took me a minute to figure this out too. The bottom is actually the middle of your triangle. I hope this helps..

cute, but do you have a link to the collapsible thread catcher as well?

efayard 09-05-2011 09:08 PM

Someone posted it on this board. Search for "folding thread catcher"

audsgirl 09-05-2011 09:38 PM

That's great! Thanks for the link.

Kitty Yates 09-06-2011 01:28 AM

You cut one triangle using two pieces of fabric and sew together and turn. Lay flat and pull up the 3 points together and you will see how it is sewn at the bottom. Pin and sew the bottom side edges half way up and fold down the points.

maryjo51 09-06-2011 02:29 AM

Love your idea. I need to make one of these. It would be super handy with pincushion on one of the triangles. Can't wait to make one

Thanks for posting my link here! I love that people are making these and enjoying them. I have a number of these - one in every type of on-the-go project that I carry around. They will also fold up nicely and be fairly flat which makes them ideal for taking along.

I'll try to attach the file of one of mine folded... Hope I do this right!

Edna,
As you can see, everyone that sees it loves it. It was exactly what I was looking for -- just the right size and they really are cute. Thanks for sharing.

I made one in about 15 minutes except for sewing on the buttons. They are a really cute and fun project, will make great gifts for my sewing friends. So thanks both to Ellen for posting and Edna for the great tutorial.

You are all very welcome! I enjoy having others get pleasure from things that I create - whether it's the actual item or the instructions to make one of your own.
