Did you get it yet? If so, how do you like it? Is it any different from a regular padded ironing board?

I got my 17" X 24" wool mat the other day. So far, I love it and when I get some extra cash....I'm ordering another one (so it will cover my ironing surface). It does have a little "wet dog" smell, but it came with something to get the odor out. But, I don't mind it...so won't use it yet. I also use the tailors clappers to put on top of the seams, but I'm not sure if I need both. Just love the mat. (I think I paid $55 for it via Amazon).

I have a full mat covering my ironing surface and I love it, I get much flatter seams. I do cover it with a cloth when using starch/sprays.

The Sonoma batting is 37.00 a yard, is that a good price?

Unfortunately it seems that eco rug pads is no longer in business. Their website redirects to a different company that sells non-wool rug pads. Does anyone know of another company with inexpensive 100% wool rug pads?

Somehow from parents & grandparents I’ve inherited 3 army green wool blankets and I could never find a use for them. This winter DH and I made 2 pressing boards (2’x2’) for two granddaughters who have just gotten sewing machines. Layer of batting, 3 layers of wool blanket cut to size and a canvas covering stapled on. He screwed on 8 rubber feet. After that, we covered my 18x72 ironing surface with 3 layers of wool blanket and new canvas covering. Still have 1 blanket but I have friends ! I’m saving the scraps - possibly stuff pin cushions. Love repurposing things !!

Hrm, I ended up looking at the site and bouncing over to the link for 'cat toys' - mini wool dryer balls. Now I'm contemplating where to get those too! My guys absolutely the small wool mat I have set up on my board. Maybe I can set these out as a distraction ploy so I can use my pressing mat again? I'd love to have a full-cover mat!

I love my wool ironing mat for my machine embroidery and also ironing shirts that have buttons. I really don't see any difference from using my regular ironing board or the pressing mat for my regular quilt blocks. My mom used the old army blankets on her ironing board when I was growing up. She always said it was more for ironing over buttons or embroidered items. So when I made my big board I used a double layer of cotton batting. (It never occurred to me tot use wool batting at that time.) When I saw the wool mats I thought it would work best for my embroidery and it did. My regular ironing board cover is one I bought that is thick and for some reason said I should not wash it, not sure why. But I do wash it in my machine and then just line dry it. When it wears out I may make a new cover using wool.
