This is the current method I use. It worked out great because I had to rearrange my sewing "stuff" because of my little granddaughter who loves to pick anything sharp. I am actually using shoe boxes (really large shoes) that I have been saving for some purpose. I saved them even above the clamor from my daughter to throw them away. I knew they'd come in handy. I just labeled them.
