The Hoop Sizes. Janome gives you the largest option and includes 4 different sizes. The largest being 7.9 x 14.2. I personally went with the 550E after going into my dealer to test all three you mentioned. So far I'm very pleased with that decision.

Ellison, how come you didn't go for the other two if you don't mind me asking?

1. The fact that I could get the largest hoop size with Janome and that might come in handy as a quilter;
2. The fact that I saw so many more positive reviews about Janome products as a whole online;
3. Janome has been making sewing machines for 150 years. They don't produce anything but sewing machines so I felt that a company that has been doing this for 150 years is most likely very good at what they do.
4. I have a dealer who is close by and can service all my machines that I'm very happy with.
I am very happy with my purchase so far, but like you, I'm a newbie to machine embroidery. Hope this helps.
