Ignorance is bliss, but it won't sell your sewing machine.

    Need information.

I can buy a Singer 66 in good condition, cosmetic and sewing order for $95.00. What do you think?

That is right Dunster. The first 301 was made and sold in 1951 in commeneration of Singer's 100 year anniversary. It is the first slant needle built by Singer. The difference between 301 and 301A (as well as 401 and 401A) is only that the A was made in Anderson, SC. They 301 is really only worth about $75.00 but condition determines price.

Some people think they know it all and there is just no excuse for bad manners.

Should be a date or patent # on the machine that can be looked up.

As I understand it, a black 301 would be worth a lot more than a beige one. They are much rarer, but do exist. All I have left is the manual and some attachments. :(

Oh man, I am also one of those that would have whipped out her iPhone and proved that old gal wrong. I hate when people try to lie about stuff like that. I most always call them on it.

I found a beat up old Singer at a thrift shop. The decals were ok, but it was a mess otherwise. And no power cord or anything extra at all. I would have bought it for 25 or 30 bucks just to clean up and display. But she want 125 for it. I asked her if she had looked up the values on those machines and she said she had and it was worth double that. This was a portable in a beat up case with no top as well. I told her that they might well be worth a lot in great condition and complete, but she will never sell it for 125 in that condition. I checked back about 6 months later and she still had it.

That depends on the decals and the cabinet. I tend to be cheap in this arena. My first 66 was a redeye (in horrible condition) in a destroyed cabinet for free. The next 66 was a plain black one (good condition) in a nice cabinet for free. The third 66 was in a portable wood case, good condition, with a box full of backclamp attachments for $20. I saw a very nice Lotus 66 in a great cabinet that they wanted $395 for. I wanted it so bad I could taste it, but I wasn't going to pay even half of that. Do you have any photos of the one you are looking at?

I can walk out if the store won't match the lower price of the same item at another retail store and I have, because the out of touch don't use the computer, manager said there was no such thing as a pricing app and snickered. He learned there was pretty darn fast. He wasn't snickering when a crowd gathered looking at the lower prices elsewhere on my phone of the same items his store was selling.

If I had an IPhone I would have. That would have been fun. lol
