A lot depends on your machine. Is it picky? Mine will not sew with Coats and Clark but all other threads are fine. Do you care if the thread is linty? If not, I recommend Connecting Threads. I usually get it there when it is on sale. For that matter, I only get mine on sale. Also check Superior Threads and YLI.

I also use Connecting Threads. They have 5,000 yard cones for 10 bucks. I clean my bobbin area with each bobbin change, but I don't think it's much lintier than other cotton threads. I think a lot of fluff comes from the fabric itself, due to a scientific experiment. I piece with beige thread, but when I clean the bobbin area, the fluff is a pale color of the fabric.

I too have bought most of my quilting thread from connecting Threads for a number of years. I also purchase from Superior Threads on occasion. I like the free shipping from connecting Threads at the $50 level.

My favorite is Aurifil, but I also like Cairo-Quilt (same maker as Glide Thread). It's very similar to Aurifil, but less expensive. It's under $13 for 3000 yd cone. I tried the Connecting Threads, but didn't care for it.

Threadart has good prices. Not as many colors as Connecting Threads but one of my machines love likes Threadart better. I get basic colors for piecing from Threadart and quilting colors from Connecting Threads.

Superiors thread aren't that linty. I FMQ with king tut and hardly got any lint. I think you are confusing it with connecting threads which is a lower quality thread. I actually found when FMQ with aurifil and superior that superior was less linty. Connecting threads is a nice thread to piece with and I never had any problems with it. If you are worried about lint superior makes a wonderful poly thread for piecing called so fine
