Default 505 shelf life?

Tried to use my 505 spray today and it didn't spray, kind of dribbled and streamed. Ran down my fingers and even burned a little. From the store name on the price tag I realize it was 4 yrs ago that I bought it. Too old?

I wonder if the nozzle is clogged - try rinsing it in warm water.

IF it's a clogged nozzle, it can be prevented after use by turning the can upside down and spraying it a second or two until air comes out. This will clear the nozzle of any glue that could harden and clog it.

Excellent hint, but this is a preventative measure. You have to do this every time you use it, not when it's gummed up. Right now, I'd try the warm water tip

I had similar happen last year.
Here's a thread that I did at the time .......

http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...m-t283188.html

When I went to the LQS, theonly answer I got at the LQS was that it was too old.

I would possibly have accepted it ....... if it happened right from when I started using it. However, being that it had worked for a few uses (see the thread), I was not happy with that as the answer.

In the end the LQS, gave me 1/2 off on a new can. I thought that was fair, knowing that they could have just said, tough!

Since then, I have heard that the propellant in the cans only last so long .... so perhaps there was enough there for me to use the first few times without problems and then it was somewhat "defunct" when I went to use it the next time.

Good Luck!

I like Heat n Bond basting spray better. It seems to have more holding power. It smells less and cost less. I buy it at Walmart.

Ugh! I'm nearly out of 505 and since Hancock's went under, there's no place near me to buy it. I guess I need to check out what Walmart and Hobby Lobby has available. I doubt I would be quilting if I had to pin or sew-baste my quilts. I love 505!
Regarding the propellant leaking out; that's a disturbing thought, but I have tried to spray other products (like hair spray) that have sat around for a few years, and they seemed to have lost their oomph, whether I soak the nozzle or not.

I didn't understand it as the propellant "leaking" ......
..... more so, that with age, it lost its "oomph" and could not spray it out.

Maybe kind of like a soda pop going flat.
