    I buy the needles that state " quilting" for piecing...don't even know what number they are.......thread-signature cotton wrapped poly....no machine problems, seams are consistent- unless I get sloppy......works for me

    I don't pay much attention to whether I'm using a 70, 75 or 80 size needle, but I do prefer either the quilting or the sharp needles over the universal.

    I usually use 80/12 with a microtex sharp needle Schmetz. I use Aurafil thread.

    The right needle will give a balanced stitch. Its worth the time to know the different types of needles, not just the size.
