Not sure what you mean by 8 Bit, but will this help?

Mario. Have seen several images of different colour schemes. Maybe it just doesn't matter what colours I use. I have no idea and I don't want to ask my son as it will be a surprise. Why a 46 year old wants this quilt I do not know...lol.

Well, I think Mario has fairly standard colors -- red pants, dark blue shirt, red hat. I Googled Mario applique and saw quite a few embroidered appliques. Here are links to a few:

Here is a whole page of Mario:

Looks like the one in green is Mario's brother, Luigi (big L on his cap; Mario has a big M on his cap).

I was part of a Mario quilt - along several years ago, we even had FQ packs made up by Moda. I can't remember the gals name who hosted it but the group and pics are still up on Flickr, and there's links to the free patterns there too.

This is one of the first quilts I started to lay out on the computer! (haven't done one yet, but I have only done a couple so far).

If you'd like, I could email the excel/worksheet documents I made for each character. Not sure if they will attach here.

    I have created...
    8 bit Mario
8 bit Donkey Kong (I think I finished this one... from the original atari game)
    8 bit star (Mario brothers)
    8 bit flower (Mario brothers)
8 bit koopa troopa (Mario brothers)
    8 bit goomba (Mario brothers)

ETA: Since they are just done on an excel sheet, each block represents whatever size you want it to (1 inch, 2 inch, etc), then you would have to make sure you account for seam allowance.

Because it would be awesome! (I'm a 38 year old female, and can't wait to make mine, lol).

Color will depend on which "version" of Mario you use.

The Donkey Kong Mario from Atari is all red, blue shoes, white face, black beard/mustache.

You can see him on this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzI1RBdK2_g The Mario from old Nintendo games is brown and red, obvious suspenders and hat.

Later Mario, from later games, is red and blue (or black). However, he changes color depending on what his current "power" is (shooting fire, flying, etc).

http://emulator.online/nes/super-mar...fb-preview.jpg ("raccoon power"-- on the box it looks blue, on the game it looks black, blue would probably be most recognizable)

Just don't do green, since that is not Mario.

I'm sure that's much more than you wanted to know, but I couldn't help it. I used to spend hours playing those games (when I could get away with it...)
