I've noticed that there are quite a few quilters from Alabama, all of varying levels (I still consider myself a newbie though I've been quilting for a couple of years now). I know there was a quilting retreat scheduled for February that had to be cancelled due to lack of participation, but I thought it would be cool to see where we were all located and to try and figure out if there was a way to put groups together for meeting every once in a while.

Would anyone be interested in regional meetings with perhaps an annual or bi-annual retreat for the whole state to get together?

Being new to AL, I'm always looking for a chance to meet other folks with similar interests. Being a new quilter, I need all the help I can get in getting projects started and getting them finished, learning new techniques, etc. Online tutorials have been a wonderful tool for a solo-quilter, but being able to meet and share stories and tips in person would be fantastic too.

Just throwing it out there to see what the potential interest is.

I'm from Knoxville, TN and if a group was in North Alabama, I would certainly travel that far if for a two-day retreat. Birmingham is about a 3 1/2 hour drive.

You bring up a good point - Chattanooga and other TN towns/cities are not all that far away from north AL (or eleswhere) so I don't see why the more the merrier can't work :)

There's also an active Modern Quilt Guild in Atlanta that meets monthly (I think) if anyone is on the border and wants to travel there.

Sure, I'm in the North Alabama area. East Limestone

Query all the Alabama members and send out a private message on this and see what response you get back. Sometimes you may not see the message posted but a e-mail message goes to their quilting board and lets them look at a private message.
