There are old spools of Coats and Clarks All Purpose thread in my thread drawers. I can't find a size on them. I think my work looks better/lies flatter with 50 or 60 wt thread. I think C&C is 40 wt. In a pinch I use it too.

If my machine will sew it, I use it, I've quilted with every kind you can name...the quilts we have around here have been washed and dried a LOT and they all come out just fine with whatever type of thread I've used!

I've used threads of all kinds, different weights, etc. without any problems except for rayon. Rayon seems more suitable for machine embrodery than FMQ. It kept breaking for me so I don't use it anymore. I have had some rather biased quilting teachers tell me not to use Coats and Clarks. I don't listen to them. Coats and Clark have been around for years, and that is good enough for me, smile.

I may be bad but I never ever use cotton thread for anything and haven't for about 30 years. It rots and it breaks!

I use some rayon when doing free motion embroidery, but wen I run out I won't buy more.
