AnnPryor I had to think about how to respond to you for awhile, as I know you have seen many pieces of my work, and I bet you are laughing, but how many of those have been traditional pieced quilts, none - not one ! I took that sampler learn to quilt class about 4 years ago, I was the only one in the class to not finish the top and it was little - it made me cry twice but I am having fun now. And still in awe of all the work that goes into a traditional quilt. AMAZING, simply amazing!

PS did I mention I am too stupid to follow directions, seriously I can not follow a pattern! But it is alright cause I can figure out the pictures!

If someone told me I had to make a quilt with 2,295 pieces I would go to bed and stay there.

The one thing that I do is that as I pin them I always put the pins in toward where I plan on sewing the seam. It helps alot. I also keep my digital camera around and take alot of pictures. It helps when I'm figuring out what fabrics I want to go together and what order I want things to go in.

Grandma 58, I just had to go back & look at your BEAUTIFUL star quilts that you made. I am so impressed. My mom, who lived in MT all her life made many star quilts, also. Whenever a niece, nephew, grandchild or such graduated high school, they'd get a star quilt. So, my hat is off to you. Thanks for sharing.

I often use the "It's OK if you sit on my quilt" book and when I pick the block I want to make, I make a sketch with detail instructions on a pad of paper. Then I can follow the instructions step by step, both for cutting and for sewing.

Here are pictures of the more or less finished top. I had fun and got all kinds of ideas. I would like to do a card tricks all in 4 colors. Even though I like this quilt more then less it is too busy for me. I will be doing more.
I am still in awe of all of you who always make pieced quilts of traditional blocks - really they are far more work then a star quilt.
Thank you all for the tips!

Ya'll are inspiring me to go try something new or Dear Jane or ...... well, must stay the course.

My DGD desperately needs the Courthouse Steps I'm making from the WOW stash and scrappy lilacs and lavenders. Poor child, new twin bed and they just threw a red Dora blanket on it. With lilac, lavender and white striped walls. Shudder.

Anyway, I ripped a lot when I first began but got better. Do the "good enough" and keep going.
