Default always use your grid paper

after sewing 2 picnic blankets for teachers, i decided it was time we had one for ourselves.

so i started making wonky log cabin blocks, but having them in straight set rows was a little overwhelming. so i thought...oh! do it like a medallion quilt, with borders between square sets!

so i quickly drafted it out, counted the blocks and set my count down to do meter.

last night i hit my "finish" number, only to discover i still need to sew 12 blocks!

to the graph paper....which would have shown me quite clearly that i needed 48, not 36!

says a lot about my draftsman skills, maybe

    It is easy to miscalculate.

    Been there. Done that.

That is why I love EQ. Draw your block and put it into a quilt and it will tell you how many blocks are needed to get the size of quilt you want. So much faster than drafting. And I took drafting in college so I know how to do it.

Sounds like the time I did blocks on point and did a very nice drawing on graph paper.

But then I ignored the drawing and stupidly figured the number of blocks by multiplying L x W. When I started laying it out, I was astonished to run out of blocks halfway down. Fortunately, I had extra fabric.
