Almost all of my quilts are done with the stitch in the ditch foot for the second stitching , with mono filament thread. I use a 2 1/4 inch cut for my binding width. Some baste the binding in place prior to the second stitching with elmers glue.. I use steam a seam that comes on a roll 1/4 inch wide to hold the binding exactly in place for the stitching. I find it fast and less messy than glue, and more precise.

Paperprincess wanted to let you know that I tried your way of binding and found that I can do it. I sure am glad to find a way to not have to hand sew the binding to the back. It worked and I so appreciate you sharing your way. This board and it's peeps rocks!!!

OOOH I do NOT like that word: cheating. too strong! A dad at my son's soccer game told me I was cheating (loudly, TWICE) because I machine quilt. I could not reach him with my foot to kick him in the shins. He will NEVER get a quilt from me! No quilt police...no one will say: I dont' want this quilt because you used monofilament thread on the binding!....Ok, I am off my soap box now! Thanks for letting me vent!
