Default Another Question from the Ultimate Sewing Novice

Hello Friends,

When a friend or my sewing instructor set up my machine for winding my bobbin, the bobbin gets wound properly. But when I do it myself, the bobbin winds unevenly--more thread toward the bottom of the spool than the top.

Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Please help.

Thank you,

Karen

Winding my bobbin does that if I skip any of the guides before going to the bobbin.

I think you must be missing-threading the machine. Hopefully you have your machine instruction manual and follow it. Or sit with your friend or instructor and have them watch you thread the bobbin to see if they can figure out the missing link. As Tartan said you are likely missing one of the thread guides.

Some machines have a screw to adjust the height of the bobbin holder thing. If it's winding too much on top or bottom of the bobbin, you adjust accordingly. Check the manual, there are probably instructions.

Thank you, Ladies.

My class is over and my friend is rather busy, but when she can she will come and try and figure this out as well.

I am not missing any of the guides in the manual.

Thanks again,

Karen

Sometimes the post gets knocked and needs to be straightened. Sometimes you just have to help it wind evenly with your finger.

So true....I had that happen and realized even though the thread was in the guide, it wasn't in the right slot of the guide.

Even though your class is over, tell your shop what is happening and as if you can stop by for a bobbin lesson. Then sit there and do it over and over and over with them watching to check you are doing it correctly.

Another observation for you to make ... despite the unevenness of the fill of the bobbin, is the thread on there as solid as it is when the others help you? Or is it somewhat spongy?

Not sure of your machine but you might want to make sure the bobbin is locked into place. One of my machines has a "feel" when it locks into place.
