Any ideas

I made this for my teen son. 6" color strips, 2 1/2" black strips. Alternate, cut 6" strips, then add 2 1/2" sashing, incredibly fast and easy. It's backed with black fleece. Works well when you don't know a kid's interests.

I make lots of 'boy' quilts for our local Linus chapter. For that age group, I would stick with basic non-fussy geometric type of designs. Squares/Rectangles are excellent, plus would be quick to sew.
As for fabrics: My 11 year old son loves orange and blue. I think if you stick with basic colors (and neutrals) you'll be good. Primary colors could be great, or muted versions that you would think of as typical 'man' colors: blues, rust, brick. If you choose a print, just make sure it's not too 'cutesy' for this age group.
Here's a couple ideas. These might have too many colors in them. I would consider doing them in one or two colors: like various blues, or brown and orange.
Other basic designs as others have suggested are great: like 'Square in Square', Rail fence, or even rows of 'bricks'.
Good Luck!

Wow, thank you. I never knew there were so many. Saw a four patch (in the sashing), I know I can do this one. Already have a boxfull of four patches made.
