Default Any Jelly Roll Rug Advice?

I was given the jellyroll rug pattern and two rolls of the specialty cut batting strips for Christmas. I would like to make a rug and find out any tips for advice. I have heard the frightening stories of the rugs not laying flat and curling up. I did a quick search here on the QB but all the threads appeared blanked out.

I plan on just cutting my own stash fabric strips instead of using a precut jellyroll. I'm going to try my best to cut straight of the grain of course, but if the strips aren't 100% straight, does that make a difference?

Thanks for any tips, friends!

No advice on a jelly roll rug, but...if you get blank posts, just refresh your screen and they magically appear.

I took a class and made one. The main thing is to keep it flat when it gets bigger, don't let it hang off the surface. Also keep the sewn part to the left of the needle or you won't have room as it gets bigger. Don't pull around the curves. The only ones that had trouble with waves and cupping was the ones that cut their own batting strips. I don't know why.

Press the strip around Each curve and pin it before you sew it. Also do Not pull the strip tight around the curve as you press it. Ease it in as you would the cap of a sleeve. If you pull it tight that is when it starts to cup and not lay flat. I made one and I think it will probably by my only one. I am happy with the results but they are a challenge.

Turn on some good music, listen to a book on tape … something to entertain you … all that mindless sewing can get to you. That said, I really do like the results!

Also, when you search and the post appear blank, for me, I am on my phone or tablet, as I don't have a laptop, so for me, I have to swipe down from near the top of the page to bring my search circle down, (that thing that spins in circles) then the post fill in, but the circle has to be visible on my screen, not hidden up in the top of my screen.
I will be following this post, on my to-do list this year is a jelly roll rug, I've also read to steam iron alot. Good luck, hope to see pictures when it's done.

NZ- is it the rectangular one or the oval?
I made the rectangular and it was easy, just be patient. Not hard though.

Thank you all so much for the tips on refreshing the page to make the older posts show up!! I would have never guessed that!

Susie, it's the oval rug. I love the look of it and really want one in front of our fireplace (which we don't use, just an accent at this point.)

Onebyone and maryb119 thank you for your advice!
