Interested in doing a barn quilt. What kind of paint is best to use for this project?

Maybe check with a paint store?
A good primer for the wood, then a good outdoor paint, like you would use on your house. :D:D:D

When we looked into it, Lowes said that the local extension office was making them as a fund raiser. They used the special marine coated plywood so that it will hold up in the weather. Check on that. Some of those quilts are so beautiful, it would be a shame for it to only last a season or two.

I just did one...I used a piece of plywood that was in the garage..I sprayed it with sealant but am going to put some of the outdoor Modge Podge on it to test and see how it holds up. I used 3 coats of acrylic paint. Its really pretty and I was looking at it yesterday and thinking If I used a richer darker blue & red I'd hang that baby up in the living room. Now THAT's an idea. =)

I'd love to make 2, one for each son-in-law. Corn and Beans for farmer SIL and Monkey Wrench for mechanic SIL. Won't happen, though, 'cause I don't have enough time to make the fabric quilts I want. :D

In some parts of the country, farm families would paint a quilt square on one side of a barn = barn quilt.

They have seen a revival in many states, where there are published lists of sites, with 'trails' to drive around and look at them.

I have two pieces of 4' by 4' baltic birch plywood in my shed now. My neighbor the woodworker suggested this as the best. I'm going to prime them with oil based primer on both sides, then use exterior latex paint to do the quilt squares. I'm definitely doing an Ohio star, and haven't decided the other one yet. I'm thinking of trying to sell them.
