Default Anyone done a log cabin by hand?

All the log cabin patterns I find are done in strips by machine. Has anyone handpieced a log cabin quilt? I want to make one but not sure if it will work with hand piecing. Any suggestions for a specific log cabin pattern?

I've done a log cabin block by hand. It's easy to do. Instead of strips you just cut the rectangles and center square to the exact measurement you need (including 1/4 inch seam allowance) and piece it together in the same order you would paper piece it, working from the center and then attaching the rectangles from small to large.

If you want to do a different type of log cabin than the traditional, that's also possible, but when it comes to something like the pineapple log cabin, where the rectangles end in an angle, you might need to work with templates instead of just a rotary cutter.

No reason it wouldn't work. Cut your 2 1/2" middle square (chimney), then gather your strips, sew and trim as needed.

This is one of my latest. It may not look like it, but it's a hand pieced log cabin... and proof that it can be done.

It's a beautiful quilt. Thanks for sharing that with me. I've decided my next quilt will be a log cabin!
