Making scrappy quilts? I've decided to make a quilt for my husband and I and thought I could use some of my favorite outdoorsy/nature fabrics (so I can use up some scraps) Well I'm starting it and I just can't get past the fact that they don't all coordinate. I've looked at some scrappy quilts on here and think they look amazing! But I'm having a hard time doing it!

I just got some really cool fabric from the Minnesota shop hop that is going on right now..but like other people I can only get so much at a quilt shop. So I'm trying to improvise and use some of what I already have.

Anyone else felt this way or am I just crazy?

    The pattern I'm using

Just what I've done today...so still a ways to go

All I do are scrappy quilts. One thing that makes them work is a constant color or fabric like in the sashing. What you have so for is great. Don't analyze it. Just do it. :)

What you have so far is great. Love the colors. Just keep going, it will fall into place. I always wonder about my scrappies until I step back and see the finished product.

I can do a scrappy, but I still have to control what color goes where. I have tried putting all pieces in a bag sewing what comes out. I just can't do it.

I have the same problem making scrappy quilts. Even when I try to make a random pattern, it ends up with a sort of symmetry.
Maybe it's all the math classes I've had over the years.
I just can't do something that isn't "figured out!"

This looks like a "planned" scrappy, but it's pretty so far. Keep it up!

Me too, I love scrappy but just can't be spontaneous! There must be an easier way!

No, i don't have any interest in scrappy quilts, maybe its just not your thing, some people are scrappy and some people are not, just do what you like. If you don't like the scrappy feel change it
