Applique coming up!
I used WonderUnder (I think; both sides fuseable) on a baby quilt. It fused my appliques onto a baby blanket which is made out of flannel and minkey. I also sewed around the applique to further keep it on and added decoration.
I washed it before giving it away. All was well.
The new mother has now washed it once and a lot of the appliqued patterns are now coming up! I also fused two pieces of cotton fabric (that made a tongue on a monster) and that has now come apart.
What's up; does anyone know?
I can sew the applique again but what should I do differently this time? What about my tongue?!
Thanks for any help.

Dolphyngyrl,
I used different stitches for some decorative and different looks: zig-zag, blanket where the < hits the applique, and straight. All of it's failing. I stitched through all layers of quilt.
Do I need to go further into the applique material, not so much on the edge? And why would the fusable on the tongue fail?

I've had the same type problem. I don't use raw edge applique on utility quilts, just wall hangings. The adhesives just aren't very durable. Flannel has a nap with some movement which would put further tension on the adhesive during cleaning, and baby blankets get a lot of that. To save what you have, stitch further in the applique and leave the excess to fray like a rag quilt. Or use a wide decorative stitch to overcast the edges. In the future for utility quilts, turn under the edges of applique and topstitch close to the edge.

I think any fabric with a nap or fuzzy might not stick as well as on regular fabric. In children's appliqué quilts I usually don't use a buttonhole stitch. I do a tight straight stitch all around the edges about 1/8 inside the shapes. I just let the edges fuzz up and the appliqués seem to stay down well but on regular cotton fabric.
