Applique Stitches
#1
I'm doing my first applique in years. I am putting a princcess on the top of a quilt (from the MODA bake shop patter of the Princess and the Pea). I can't figure out what stitch to use to complete the applique. Any suggestions? I can't tell from the pattern photos what they used. It's for a baby, so I don't want to use monofilament thread. I have a really pretty pink to use.
Here is the pattern and photo:

I appreciate any input!

I usually use satin stitch on children's quilts as they'll probably be washed quite often. Bonding & then machine stitching with the blanket or buttonhole stitching does let the edges fray a little between the stitches. Maybe do a small practice piece & see which stitch you prefer on your machine.

I think a tight zig-zag should do the trick as well.

I ending up using the blanket stitch and it looks fine. Lots of mistakes, but live and learn!!
Thanks all for your suggestions.

Looks like fun! I did a commission piece years ago with the same theme. My princess sat atop mattresses decorated in antique lace and trims, staring out the castle window at the moon beyond. That was in the days before digital cameras, so I hope it is still around somewhere.
