Gutterman makes a nice fusible thread - my machine will only take it in the bobbin, won't go through the top.

Eleanor Burns did not sew the thread to her quilt, but simply laid it on the seam line and pressed it in place. I think I might give this a try. While I like to hand sew the binding, my hands don't always appreciate the effort.
