Judebug, today is the first I have seen this thread. THANK YOU! I recently decided that Art Quilts are really what interests me the most and I have come to learn that it includes almost anything you want it to. I have several projects in the works using many different items such as Inktense pencils, FMQ, beading, etc. And, so many things I want to incorporate. What a resource this thread is turning out to be. I am going to try your challenge and thank you again for starting this. Tomorrow I will try to post some photos.

This is an interesting challenge. Off to dig in my stash for some non-traditional fabrics for ideas.

I use almost anything that comes to mind. I just finished a candy land quilt. I needed sticks for the lollipops. My couch cushions were falling apart so I fixed them by taking out the couching and sewing the cushions without the couching. I used the couching on the quilt. It turned out beautiful.

All of these are just super. One of these days I'm going to figure out how to do it and you guys can admire my work. hehehe! All I can say is INCREDIBLE!

Although I didn't create this 12" square for the Geometric Challenge on this thread, it does fit the criteria. Since no one has posted any response to the challenge, I thought I'd share this one and hope others will too. Actually I have two other quilt designs drawn for this Geo Challenge. Anyone else working on one?

I have always been interested in art of any description. My mother, sister and husband are very artistic and all draw/paint beautifully. I have a million ideas in my head....I just have to learn to get the flow going down to the hands. I think you might have got me going Judebug!

Glad to hear you've been inspired Earthwalker. I often stumble with the 'initial idea to first step phase' as well. Artists all work differently and there are many approaches to art quilting. One of the reasons I've joined online theme challenges is because it forces me to focus on the idea first and then brainstorm techniques that would complement and reinforce that theme. (Go to my blog to read my detailed post on the Element of Simplicity quilt photo above. It describes my thought process and construction choices.) Another process I truly enjoy is starting with an unfinished project and using it to experiment on ~ nothing ventured, nothing gained. Since you already have a million ideas, it sounds to me like you need to pick one... preferably the one you are most excited about doing something with. Set yourself some parameters if needed: size, one to three colors, try a new technique etc., just to get some of your choices out of the way, then draw up a full scale outline drawing of your design and get started. I hope you share with us what you learn along the way. Happy quilting!
