I just had to comment, what a nice quilt! Jane. It sooo represents summer. You are really talented. The map quilt of the family farm is such a great idea. You, too, keep up the good work! and thanks for sharing the photo.

Nice to see this thread. I'd like to see a seperate forum for art quilters. It'd be easier to find pertinent info.

My Avatar is an 8x8" square art quilt. It's raw edge applique, fmq and bead work.

I've done Inktense, Jacquard paint, Prismacolor Pencils, Shiva PaintSticks. Landscapes, portraits, non-objective. Preplanned and decide as I go. Use a design wall. Have made quilts from photos, advertisements, books, head-ideas.

Because it's ART quilts, I'm a member of an art league, go to art shows, read art books and magazines as well as quilts events.

Wish I'd found this earlier. So I'll need to spend some time reading all of it.

    Default Family Farm quilt

After spending eight months doing genealogy research this last year, I was inspired to make this Family Farm quilt. I used a satellite map of the farm as a reference after enlarging to the actual size I wanted. I painted all of the different fields on separate pieces of fabric using Pebeo Setacolor paint and a Jonestones 3-D paint for the cornfields. This piece is 31" x 22". I made a foam stamp of a corn stalk to paint the backing and the ones on the front. I put some "ghost" pictures (old photos of my father, grandfather, and aunt in some fields with horses. I am pleased with my efforts.

Default Fireworks Painted Wholecloth Quilt #2

After giving away the first Fireworks quilt, I decided I wanted one to keep. So in keeping with the "try something new" philosophy, I spread the motifs and added hand-stitching using #8 perle cotton thread.

Jane you have been one busy girl! Wow -two very different pieces. Would love to see them both for real to ogle the textures. Love that backing fabric on the farm. Finding that one must have made you dance a happy dance!

petthefabric I would love a forum but we don't have enough traffic yet. Although I would think we are getting close. But many people are lurkers not actual contributors. I can ask again--or hey any of you can. Management seems to think I am a bit of a troublemaker sometimes.

Over on the challenge thread we have a

    Last minute challenge for "Frozen"

I'll send a fat 1/4 from City Quilter to the first 5 who post. Come on you lurkers. Let's support Suzy's great ideas. Subject: Ice cube tray. Figure it out!! Dotty in NYC, where it is not freezing yet.

Need to post your efforts over on the challenge forum though...........

suziehammond, I cut the cornstalk out of adhesive-backed craft foam, attached it to Dura-Lar (clear, stiff plastic), painted it, and stamped it on the backing fabric and on the front.
